Songs I Thought About a Lot This Week #1
Weekly (lol we'll see) post with songs I listened to and thought about A LOT
I’m terrible at consistently writing and making blog posts so we’ll see how often I actually do one of these. I plan on using this as a place to write some thoughts on music I’ve heard in the last week that I can’t fit into a tweet (not entirely true).
Made Me the Most Emotional
Of Course (Prod. Oogie Mane) - Lil Uzi Vert
I’ve listened to this 2018 unreleased Lil Uzi Vert song an embarrassingly high amount in the past month. All the groaning and moaning (pause lmfao) in the intro followed by “Oogie Mane he killed it” and “I’m working on dying” into him yelling “uh uh uh” for 15 seconds into the chorus is *1,000 chef’s kisses*.
There are two specific points in the song where my heart sinks like an aircraft carrier into the deepest pit of my stomach.
“I ain’t goin flex no more, gave my watch to my best friend” - (0:25 mark)
I cannot wait to give my friends an Apple Watch
“throw it up don’t be scared, I was throwing up and it was clear” - (1:05 mark)
He lives the life I’ve always wanted
RIP MF DOOM
Here’s some DOOM songs I can’t stop listening to since his passing.
Deep Fried Frenz (Prod. Metal Fingers aka DOOM)
“I found a way to get peace of mind for years and left the hell alone. Turn a deaf ear to the cellular phone”
Doomsday f/ Pebbles the Invisible Girl (Prod. MF DOOM)
Rhinestone Cowboy (Prod. Madlib)
Accordion (Prod. Madlib)
“Is he still a fly guy clapping if nobody ain’t hear it?”
Rock Co.Kane Flow f/ MF DOOM (Prod. Jake One) - De La Soul
Some Other Shit
wokuplikethis* f/ Lil Uzi Vert (Prod. Pi’erre Bourne) - Playboi Carti
I’m just glad we all listened to the same music growing up.
Dome Piece (Prod. Cash Cobain) - Flee
Very torn on the sentiment of this song cause I GET it but I don’t know if that’s the wave or not.
(Also, you can hear an iPhone text notification go off towards the end of the song that always fucks with me lol)
The Blinding f/ Travis Scott (Prod. G. Ry, AraabMUZIK, Hit-Boy & Swizz Beatz)
We really gotta thank Jay Z for holding Jay Elec’s hand and leading him into the studio to record this album. Beat switch is so good even after I hear the two (four? technically two right maaaaybe just one??) most dreaded words in music production history “Hit-Boy…. Hit-Boy…”
“when I look inside the mirror all I see is flaws, when I look inside the mirror all I see is mars”
I don’t care if that second line is about his daughter. He’s saying “bars” to me dammit. WE LIVE THE SAME LIFE.
Tatted Up f/ Fabo (Prod. Bankroll Got It) - K Camp
Interpolation of one of the most significant foundational layers to my mental hip hop diary. Can’t stop saying, “my shawty tatted up… my shawty tatted up” (I’m single so this is not a truthful statement lol). But seriously though… what the hell is Fabo talkin bout on this joint lmfaoooo???
“You got that work, but I’m not Captain Kirk”
“You got that AC/DC (Ooh), you got that U2, ooh-ooh (Ooh)
Queen Nefertiti, Kiki (Ow), I wanna be your guru”“And she graffitied like Picasso, had a DJ and the whole club (Ah)”
Even with context those lines sound ridiculous as fuck lol.
You know what’s CRAZYYY???? You can hear the Fabo influence in alllll of Don Tolliver’s music.
Stay Down f/ 6lack & Young Thug (Prod. DY Krazy & Metro Boomin)
I was walking to get coffee this morning and this song came on the Yosh personal apple radio station. Man, Durk just be saying shit lmao.
“Spanish bitch say gracias”
….and? lmfaoooo
It’s just so goofy and lazy. Like this the best you got for a Spanish reference???
“Pussy drippin', Blueface, you gotta switch mops”
Just wow… this is a HELL of a reference for this type of line lol.
We can’t keep letting this man get away with making love songs like this lololol.
I was about to post another Durk song alluding to how he’s the most relatable rapper of our generation but I’ll save that for another week.
Ijustwannalayaroundalldayinbedwithyou (Prod. Boots Riley) - The Coup
Never heard this shit until I started combing through this list called “Best Rap, 2006” written by Noz. The bass line is so funky and drives the entire song. Reminds me of something Thundercat would make nowadays for someone else’s album. Homie is SPITTING too.
Anti-capitalism hidden in sex talk >>>>
I sent this joint around to get a consensus on it cause I LOVED it. Immediately I was met with negativity. Fuck y’all. This shit goes hard.
I’m probably fucked up.
