Songs I Thought About a Lot This Week #3
Weekly (lol we'll see) post with songs I listened to and thought about A LOT
What up. Week #3. Umm.. last week there really wasn’t enough music I thought about to fill a whole post so I just let them shits marinate for an additional week to roll into this joint.
Hearts in the chat for another week <3 <3 <3
Made Me the Most Emotional
Really Really (Prod. Jake Troth, Cook Classics & Alex Goose) - Kevin Gates
I’ve never watched the music video until I started making this post and man…. wtf was the editor doing with the first 15 seconds???? It’s awkward as fuck lmfao.
Okay. Backstory. Summer 2016, I interned in North Carolina and every. single. fucking. day… on my commute to and from the office, I would listen to this song. Along with this, this, and this lololol. Hell of a summer.
Anyways, all right Kevin… There’s no way you got in the booth and really thought, “my daughter goin love this bitch” and proceeded to rap the things you rapped about. Sonically, I think I can get on board with saying just about anybody in your life was prolly goin love this song. Lyrically…. not sooo sure lol.
The chorus is perfect. So much energy. Every sound/instrument in the song combines to create this grandiose feeling. It reminds me of those ceremonies where medieval royalty marches down the brick road to their castle to celebrate… I don’t know…. slaying a dragon??? Like, I could see this being played during a montage of King Arthur swinging the sword after he pulls Excalibur from the stone.
“They ask me if I’m high. I say, ‘really really…’
First verse has a key lyrical moment when Mr. Gates addresses some of the noise around the, at the time, controversial topic of booty consumption. There was a viral video of him talking bout the tongue lashings he loved to give his significant others and people were like, “huh?” WE WERE NOT ACCEPTING of this behavior at the time. Then we had the 4th love of my life, Jhené Aiko, talking bout getting the cheeks consumed like some groceries on the Omarion song and everything was course corrected. I love you for that Jhené.
“Body unique, booty on fleek. Jhené Aiko, chewing her cheek. Groceries, please, you know that was me”
This man rapped, “oyster perpetual.” I was so in love with the way those two words sounded back to back. Every time I freestyled, I tried so hard to work that into a verse. Always sounds fly as fuck. Shouts to you Gates.
Some Twitter Shit
Boogie sliiiiiiiidddddeeeees on the Free Joe Exotic beat.
Knxwledge deserves everything in the world. Same with this man rapping. My god.
“Gat my bust, bust my gat, I’m dyslexic. And don’t get shit off my chest, I bench press it.”
“choppas hit the pigs we made bacon and pork chops.”
“there’s blood everywhere, hot sauce over dried pork”
Some Other Shit
Right Now f/ Pi’erre Bourne (Prod. Pi’erre Bourne) - Playboi Carti
“Did it all off computers, hey (Yeah, yeah)”
Me too Pi’erre.
I Got So Fucking Lit I Almost Died f/ Token Black (Prod. ????) - Pe$o Pete
Every song should be required by law to have 4-5 producer tags at the beginning.
I don’t know what it is about out of key, off kilter melodies but this song really hits it out the park. The loop is so simplistic but it works so well.
“Came from the bottom, shit was terrible, I swear to god”
“Can’t go back in time but sometimes I watch anime. Green and black plaid, sometimes I watch anime.”
Also, the beat on this joint from the same project goes SO HARD. Actually… we gotta have a conversation around the original sample and how HORRIBLE the lyrics are lmfao.
Before I Die (Prod. Che Ecru) - Che Ecru
Okay.. I like Che Ecru’s music… I really do. So much potential. His Buries mixtape reminds me of this one girl. Shouts to you. I still love you so much.
But man, wtf was he doin while writing this song????
The chorus is really funny lol. “Before I die I’m tryna fuck you baby, hopefully we don’t have no babies” lmfao sure. I GET IT though. Sometimes you got that fire and desire for the apple of your eye and you can’t imagine perishing before tasting that sweet nectar. Of course we don’t want offspring as of yet though. Maybe someday. We have ALL felt this way before. Cool.
Now, I got nothing else to say. Just gonna post some lyrics below and we can keep it moving. Che, if this ever reaches you, let me write your songs and A&R your future projects. We can make it big.
Go to hell.
PS. you’ve prolly heard this sampled on “No Guidance” by Chris Brown & Drake.
Tekken Tag f/ Soduh (Prod. Lordfubu) - A$AP ANT
“white girl I name her iCarly”
“this shit better work like KD and Kyrie, two rings in PG like Quinn I cook”
All right. We gotta take a second for that last bar cause omg holy fuck lol. We definitely DO want it to work between KD and Kyrie but not toooooo good if you know what I’m saying. Bro, the “two rings” refers to the two nba championships that Quinn Cook has acquired. Him and KD are both from Prince George County Maryland (PG). Quinn Cook plays Point Guard (PG). Using Quinn Cook’s name to reference cooking up dope is crazy lol. Incredible wordplay.
Dolly f/ Lil Uzi Vert (Prod. TXBITHETEENVGER, C4Bombs &BRackz) - Lil Tecca
Look at them green hairs. Wowie.
It’s actually really fucking funny how Tecca doesn’t even try to dress nice for music videos lol.
CellPhone (Prod. ZJakkies) - Texaco
Song makes my heart smile :]
Too Many (Prod. A Lau & Tony Seltzer) - Lil Tjay
I found this song the other night browsing around the depths of YouTube after listening to Tony Seltzer’s Boiler Room set. The keys on here sound like A Lau and Tony Seltzer were trying out their best Zaytoven impersonation.
Lil Tjay is good. It doesn’t feel like he’s a huge artist but when you look up his songs on the Tube, he’s got MILLIONS of views. Someone needs to tell me if he’s popular. I don’t know.
Here’s a list of Lil Tjay songs
